Suki’s Turmeric Tea, aka Golden Milk

If you like warm, spicy flavors, give this a try. It’s a bit like pumpkin spice or hot cocoa, except… not. It’s got its own vibe. Golden milk is delicious and incredibly soothing.

Suki’s recipe makes a dry mix that I whip up again whenever I’m running low:

1/2 cup turmeric
1/2 cup ginger
1/2 cup cinnamon
1 tablespoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

I start with the pepper in my Blendtec, Blend that to powder, then add the rest. But if you don’t have a Blendtec, you could just use finely-ground spices and mix them thoroughly. I store mine in a pint-sized peanut butter jar.

Then: use about 1/2 teaspoon mixture in a mug of boiling water. Add a bit of creamer or milk and sweetener if you like. I like Trader Joe’s Coconut Almond Creamer — which is already sweetened. So. Very. Good. There will be a bit of “sediment” in the bottom of the cup. You can either keep stirring to avoid the settling, or, just rinse that out when you’re done.

It’s delicious enough to drink for the fun of it, and turmeric may have medicinal value as well. This tea seems to have significantly reduced some chronic aches and pains I had from a rib injury.

Many of my friends have tried this and contacted me to say they absolutely loved it. One says it helps her hip pain. Several have asked for the recipe again. So, here it is.
