“Software for Starving Students”, an GNU/Open Source compilation CD needed an updated, catchy interface design to go with the latest release. How better to portray it than as brain-food? (Yeah I based it loosely on my site layout-to-be) We arranged to get a school-lunch tray, a box of milk, two popular open-source titles, and a spork, which I photographed. The next task was to balance the quirkiness of the image with credibility, and add a kick of style — while maintaining the no-nonsense usability you’d expect from the BYU Unix Users Group. The result? A funky square meal.
