I like to hide. If there’s a spotlight, I start worrying about pressure and performance. If nobody’s looking, I can just be my weird self. And when someone happens to stumble across me or my work and likes it anyway, that feels real.
Still, when Pomy of WPKitchen reached out to interview me for their new Talk Time series, I figured I had a chance to highlight something that’s bigger than me.
I’ve been a sponsored volunteer for the WordPress Foundation since August. I spent the first half of 2026 working on the Contributor Pathways project, documenting clear pathways into open source contribution through WordPress.
The MVP is out in support of the WordPress Credits program. My dream now? Contributor nights at local WordPress user groups, where folks not only use the guides to make their first contributions, but also share ideas for making them better.
Open source has changed the world for the better, but we still need a better world. It needs more people pitching in. I believe it will require rebuilding our sense of connection to one another, too.
I hoped to highlight the project. But when the questions were more about me as a person, I decided to give in for the sake of reaching out. And I’m looking forward to reading many more Talk Time interviews to connect with others, too. As Pomy put it:
Behind every plugin, release, meetup, or contribution is a person with a story that deserves to be heard.
