I’d been AFK chasing my dreams across the country (a wild ride for sure; shall I blog about it?) when Matt, co-founder of WordPress, posted this birthday wish for us to blog.
I still fight silly insecurities when it comes to writing here, and often end up posting on social media where I have some imagined control over who can see my posts. I need to do better with that, because blogging can have such a long-term positive impact. Social media tends to be a time suck, and while there is great content now and then (partial reinforcement schedules, even), it gets continually buried by new posts that are often useless if not outright harmful.
But when you need to search the web for a how-to, where do you land? Sometimes on Reddit, sure. Sometimes on Stack Exchange or another forum. But rarely if ever will you find what you need in a Facebook post or tweet.
More often than not, you’ll wind up on a blog. And that blog will almost always be powered by WordPress, where creators truly own all of their content and can use any provider that suits them well.
So, happy belated birthday to the one who brought this system to life and built its community. Let’s keep it going for decades to come. And cheers to Matt and the whole WordPress community for truly making the web and the world a better place.
